ASSEMBLING THE BODY
by BJ Reese
I love it when something I’ve read in the Bible starts to make sense in my everyday life! I Corinthians, chapter 12, goes into great detail to explain to us that all members of the body of Christ are crucial to its function. No single part is any more, or less, important that any other part. Reading that chapter recently, my mind drifted to thoughts of my sons and the journey they’ve been taking toward God. In early 2012, my son Mike took deliberate steps toward God after separating from his first wife. When he was awarded custody of their children, Mike worked hard to ensure them a stable, loving home. After he remarried, he and his new wife found a church and became active there. They found ways for the kids to be active there. Two times during their years in Gillette, Mike and his wife opened their home to Mike’s brother Tony, who was struggling with challenges in his life. In December, 2015, Mike’s family moved to Rapid City for work, and quickly found a church home here. A few months later, they again opened their home to Tony – and his new wife – while they sought to determine the direction their lives were to take next. Tony and Trina began attending church with Mike’s family and, soon, they were also active and involved. I watched as Tony’s walk with the Lord began to strengthen. Changes continued to deluge my boys in January, 2017. Their youngest brother, Kevin, arrived home to Rapid City near the end of the month. He was in full-blown crisis and wanted to surround himself with family while he rode out the storm. The two older boys took time off from work that first morning, to be with their brother.
